Its official. Sun Pictures, which is on an acquisition spree, has brought the rights of Dhanush starrer Mappillai from the films original producers Nemichand Jhabak and V Hitesh.
After Padikadhavan, this is going to be the second venture for Sun Pictures with Dhanush and director Suraaj at the helm of affairs. The movie is expected to be a summer 2010 release, as the film production and distribution arm of Sun TV Network has in hands a string of films awaiting release.
A remake of a yesteryear Rajinikanth film of the same title, the new version has Hansika Motwani opposite the son-in-law of the Superstar. Jayapradha will play the all-powerful mother-in-law, played by Sri Vidya in the original.
Manisharma is scoring the music. Says Suraaj, though there are no major changes to the script, some minor modifications are however being made to suit to the present trend. I am thrilled to direct a film whose original version had Rajini sir in the lead role.
